Uniforms
Initially the air forces were part of the Army and wore the same uniform. The uniform's basic colors were khaki and olive drab. The need for a new uniform came about after the United States Air Force became an individual service.
A gradual shift over from the olive drab to blue uniforms for winter became necessary with new issues to airmen in the later part of 1950. Khakis with blue accessories would be the Air Force summer uniform.
Until full issue of the new Air Force uniforms both the Army uniforms and the Air Force blues were authorized. As the result of this, there were a few years when both uniforms were in simultaneous use by the Air Force.
